Blogmas 2016: Michael Bublé Presents: A Very Aquino Christmas
The title of this post is a very exclusive in joke, so sorry about that (but shout out to 320!). But also, Michael Bublé is like the modern Bing Crosby or Burl Ives in terms of being a Christmas classic.
I am a big Christmas person, I love the holidays, I love the onset of winter, I love getting people gifts, I love all the twinkle lights everywhere, and I love holiday music. Seriously I listen to it all year depending on when I get a craving. After January 1st, however, I’m ready for it to not be winter anymore, then winter is just sad for many, many, many months.
It’s still technically December (I know, I’m cutting it close) so I’m still celebrating Christmas though! I love to dress up for holidays because it’s a day away from your ordinary life!
Christmas Eve is like a big deal with our family. We go to my aunt and uncle’s house and they have this fabulous, positively sinful brunch. I start to dream about this brunch on December 1st I kid you not it’s that incredible. I mean, I am a self-identified ~breakfast person~ but that does not mean I am biased in my assessment of the excellence of this brunch. It is a good brunch. Even though I eat myself into oblivion at this brunch, I still wanted to look cute.
For this Christmas Eve, I went a little retro chic with a white short-sleeve mock neck from Uniqlo (yes I have that shirt in two colors, don’t judge), with some high-waisted, wide-leg denim culottes from Madewell, and some blue suede sock boots I got in Rome. This is one of my favorite ways to wear culottes into the cooler months! No exposed skin, but still high levels of cute-ness. I’m also sporting 100% Pure pomegranate oil lipstick in Dahlia (which my dog always wants to eat), and some sparkly earrings from my grandma.
The high-waisted pants really help suck in my gut even when I’ve eaten the equivalent weight of a small child in the form of bagels and lox, strata, and sticky buns. Fun lifestyle hack there.
For Christmas Day, we have everyone over to our house. Luckily it was fewer than at Thanksgiving, but it was still lightly chaotic. You know, par for the course. I went high glam for Christmas even though everyone else usually just goes for jeans and a sweater because I am precocious and don’t know how to tone it down. I’m sporting a black short-sleeve mock neck from Uniqlo, and yes it’s the same one from yesterday just in a different color. This shirt is the perfect wait to winter-ize this lovely velvet paisley swing dress from LOFT. This photo doesn’t really do the colors and textures justice, so I’ve included the link!
I also am wearing the gold shimmer tights from LOFT, which are so so cool. They are, however, a bit itchy because of the metallic thread, and also started to get runs in them with only a few hours of wear. Not super durable, but high levels of cool factor. You can do that cost analysis for yourself. Also wearing a pair of pink suede pumps from Target, and some fun glittery eyeshadow I found from L’Oreal Paris that I definitely bought when I was like 16 for a Halloween costume or something. The color is Liquid Diamond (fancy), and it’s so rad. Finally, I’ve got some cool and creepy dangly earrings in the shape of silver doll hands, which my brother graciously got for me from Etsy. I love how unsettling they are…
My Christmas holiday was pretty uneventful, aside from the fact that I was running essentially on adrenaline, shock, and coffee after only 24 hours of post-semester recovery (my semester didn’t end until the 22nd!! What an injustice!). I’ve been sleeping and running errands since then, and I have to say, I’m ready for 2016 to be over. I’m not that hopeful that 2017 will be the magical respite that everyone seems to think it will be, but it’s a year of big changes for me that I am absolutely terrified of, but which I’m also ready to face head on. Bring it 2017.
